Asbestos Surveys
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a group of fibrous, heat-resistant minerals that was commonly used in construction materials. Exposure to asbestos can cause health issues and it is estimated that it is responsible for over 5000 deaths every year.
What is an Asbestos Survey?
An Asbestos Survey is required to manage asbestos within a premise by identifying its location and gathering accurate information including the type of asbestos and its condition. A survey will include taking samples of any areas that are suspected to have Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's). The samples will then be sent to a laboratory to be tested for Asbestos. The type of asbestos and the risk posed will determine the assessors recommended actions.
What type of surveys are carried out?
- Management Surveys - This is a standard survey that is carried out to locate and identify the presence of asbestos. The survey will also assess the condition of and asbestos detected
- Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys - This type of survey is required before any refurbishment or demolition works are carried out. The survey will locate any asbestos containing materials in the areas that are to be refurbished or in the case of a demolition survey, any asbestos within the building. This is a fully intrusive survey.
- Re-Inspection Survey - These are surveys carried out at pre-determined intervals to check the conditions of any asbestos that has been identified
