Sprinkler and Mechanical Systems
What is a Sprinkler System?
Automatic fire sprinkler systems are a commonly used method of fire protection. The system is made up of sprinkler heads installed throughout a property that are linked via pipes to a water supply system. There are different types of sprinkler systems:
- Dry sprinkler systems are charged with compressed air or inert gas. These are installed in properties where there is a risk of pipes freezing
- Wet sprinkler systems are installed when there is no risk of pipes freezing. This type of system is constantly pressured with water and is activated when a sprinkler head is activated
What is a Dry Riser?
Dry risers are used to provide water within buildings for firefighting. The water is distributed through a vertical pipe that travels through the levels of a building and water is distributed via outlets.
What is a Wet Riser?
Like a dry riser, a wet riser is used to provide water within buildings for firefighting. The difference is that wet risers are permanently charged with water.
